On this discovery hike to the Geneva Creek Iron Fens, the group will explore rare, rust-colored wetlands fed by mineral-rich springs, encountering unique plant life and unusual geologic formations.

On this discovery hike to the Geneva Creek Iron Fens, the group will explore one of Colorado’s rarest wetland ecosystems, where mineral-rich springs create striking rust-colored terraces and support unusual plant communities found in few other places on Earth. We'll find a comfortable spot for lunch/snack. We'll explore an alternate return route to the cars. Our pace will be consistent with completing this hike in a reasonable amount of time. Carpool Place & Time: Meet at the US 285 & Mountain View at 7:00am, for a 7:15am departure latest (Us 285 & Mountain View PNR - Google Maps)

We'll carpool to the Shelf Lake TH parking lot (Shelf Lake Trailhead - Google Maps)

If road conditions are good, we will drive and park further up Geneva Creek Rd
