This is a high altitude hike, a great training hike for bigger peaks and climbs. With 1200-1600 feet of gain depending on where you look, this hike starts high and features steady but moderate inclines to the top. There is no official trail for the majority of the hike, but route finding should be easy as the ridgeline and peak is in wide open view the whole way. We will cross tundra and maybe some willows and rocks to navigate around. Our pace will likely be slower due to the altitude and route finding. Please be prepared to moderate your pace and stay with the group.
We will be above treeline the entire hike. Due to this, we will start early and respond to weather as needed. If the forecast looks bad before the trip, I may reschedule the hike. I know that's a bummer, but it's not worth risking a group of people in a high altitude environment where hikers may not be able to move quickly.
It will be colder and potentially windy at 11.5K feet when we start in the morning. Please bring appropriate layers.
We will carpool from Twin Forks Park n ride. You may meet us at the Guanella Pass Trailhead if desired, I will email everyone and we'll sort out driving plans.
Twin Forks Park n Ride in Morrison. Meetup directions will be emailed to participants.
