Hiking – High Line Canal

This walk will take us from the Waterton Canyon trailhead to the diversion structure where water from the South Platte River becomes the Highline canal. It is hike #1 of 14 hiking sections along the canal. It covers segment 1 of the Highline Canal Guidebook, and is about 4 miles round trip. This is our first of 14 canal hikes this winter. If you are new to the area, want to stay active this winter, avoid I-70 traffic, or just enjoy walking the canal, come join us. We'll be walking most Fridays.

From the starting point at Waterton Canyon TH we’ll walk upstream beside the river on Denver water board’s road to the diversion site, and return the same way.  Expect to see wildlife, anglers, birders, bicyclists, other walkers and Denver water board trucks along the way.  This walk covers segment 1 of the Highline Canal Guidebook, roughly mile 0 to mile 2 and is about 4 miles RT. We walk at about 2.5 to 3 miles per hour, so even though the hike is easy for distance and elevation, it is not a slow hike.

We’ll meet at 8:50 at the picnic table by the bathrooms at Waterton Canyon TH, 11300 Waterton Rd, Littleton, CO 80125, 39.49109650482328, -105.09420288205473 for 9am departure.
