From the starting point at the Highline Canal Origin TH we’ll walk along the canal past the Swan traps, where debris and silt from the water is captured, and cleaner water proceeds down the canal or out into Platte Canyon Reservoir. We’ll cross Rampart Range Road and Titan Road before reaching Willow Creek, the first of many creeks that flow into the Platte River, and over which the canal was built. From here one can see Dinosaur Ridge to the north and the ridge to the east housing Lamb Spring Archaeological Preserve where mammoth, camel, sloth, horse, llama and wolf fossils were discovered. They can now be seen at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. At mile 3.75 we pass the Miksch-Helmer cabin, at mile 4.75 the Seven Stones Botanical Garden Cemetery, mile 6 Cottonwood Riding Club, 6.75 the Solstice planned community. This segment ends at mile 7.25 at Roxborough Park Road TH. One or more drivers will take the carpool drivers back to their cars after the hike.
We’ll meet at 8:50 at Roxborough Park Road TH, 11490 Roxborough Park Rd, Littleton, CO 80125 for 9:00am departure. This is not the state park of the same name. There are portolets at the TH. We are meeting at the end point of the hike, and will carpool to the starting point at Highline Canal Origin TH, 10401 Waterton Rd, Littleton, CO 80125
