We’ll start at the Comanche/Venable Trailhead and follow the Comanche Trail (#1345) in the San Isabel National Forest.  At about ½ mile, we’ll cross the Rainbow Trail, then shortly enter the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. We’ll continue on the Comanche Trail to a junction just short of 4 miles and make a short descent to the lake.  We’ll plan to have lunch at the lake.

Leader’s permission is required.  This is a challenging hike with round trip distance of approximately 8 miles and 2670’ of gain. The high point is 11,660 feet. Pace will be 1½ to 2 mph with breaks as necessary.

If the hike is full, preference will be given to El Pueblo and Pikes Peak members.

Reports are that the trail is clear of snow, but that there are lots of mosquitos.

People have been having trouble with the “ask permission” function, so feel free to contact me directly.

The meeting place will be the NE corner of the Pueblo City Park pool (221 S Parkside Ln, Pueblo, CO 81005) at 6:30am.  From there we will carpool or caravan to the Comanche/Venable Trailhead (approximate Lat/Lon 38.08228, -105.56454) Alternatively, meet at the trailhead at 8am.
