Horsethief Park Trail

Hiking – Horsethief Park Trail - Pancake Rocks

Updated 5/30/23. The hike begins at the Horsethief Park Trailhead which can be found on Google. We will follow Horsethief Park Trail (#704) East past where the trail turns North, continuing East on the Pancake Rocks trail (#704.A). Pancake Rocks Trail bends South. The hike is approximately 6 miles, with 1,670 feet of elevation gain. We have the option of adding a short jaunt of less than a mile by visiting Horsethief Falls. It’s a great time of year to explore falls. Falls are at peak during spring runoff. I have not hiked the entire trail. The hike is exploratory. DO NOT USE ALLTRAILS. AllTrails contains inaccurate information. Google Horsethief Park Trailhead for directions to the parking lot, or, see the attached Routes and Places link for printed directions. CoTrex also has the trail on it. Look up HorseThief Park. There is parking on both sides of Highway 67.

We will have two meetup options.  (1) Those wishing to carpool, or drive, from Pueblo will meet at the northeast corner of the Sam's Club parking lot at 412 Eagleridge Blve., leaving at 7:00a.m.  (2) The second meetup will be at the Horsethief Park Trailhead at 8:45. The hike begins at the trailhead.

Leash trained, well behaved, dogs are allowed on this trail, and on this hike.   Be prepared to carry out waste.  In studying the map, I don't see many water sources, especially after we turn south onto trail 704A towards the Pancake Rocks formation.  Be prepared to carry water for you and the pup(s).

Please evaluate your fitness level prior to joining the hike.  If you are not well, stay home.  It is considered a moderately challenging trail.  It's all or none / no man left behind.  If not an experienced hiker, this hike may not be a good choice for a first hike.  If one person has to turn back we all do.

Whereas all are welcome, if the hike fills, El Pueblo and Pikes Peak branch members will receive preference.
