Hiking – Keller Mountain

Trip

Hiking – Keller Mountain

We will climb Keller Mountain, a remote 13'er in the Gore Range, following the Class 2+ Southwast Face approach. Our route will involve some bushwhacking (possibly difficult at times) and approximately 50% will be off-trail requiring navigation and route finding. Some of the route will be on steep alpine terrain so climbing helmets are recommended.

  • Mileage: 10.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,825 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 13,074 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 mph

This will be a difficult hike due to the elevation gain and off-trail travel. We will be moving quickly with short breaks and a "lunch" break on summit if conditions permit. I have described the pace as 1.5 mph, but will be quicker during our approach, and then likely slower for final 1 mile push to the summit where terrain becomes quite steep. Please reach out to steve.thompson00@gmail.com to discuss your experience and conditioning level before registering for this trip.

If you have any questions or want to discuss the trip reach out via e-mail.

Meet at Rock Creek Trailhead north of Silverthorne off Hwy 9 (on some maps refererred to as North Rock Creek Trailhead) at 6:00 AM. We will coordinate carpool for those interested.
