This is a LIT hike for Matt Felder.
The Lower Straight Creek hike mostly follows the creek on an out and back run with a fairly steady, gentle climb. It's slightly noisy for the first ~0.75mile with the interstate nearby, but gets quieter after the first third of the hike out. About 1/4mile of the hike is through a section of pine beetle kill that's not great, but past that is quite pretty. About 2 miles in is a neat remote cabin only accessible from this hike. The trail ends in a pretty meadow. There are a few sections of the trail with tree roots (trip hazards) or uneven rocks... so bring those hiking poles. There are a few hundred feet of trail ~1.5miles in with a steep 30% grade that can be a little slick. This is similar to the tricky parts of Mount Royal, but much shorter section of steep.
