At 7:40am, we will walk the short distance from the parking lot to the vault toilets at the junction of the Castle Trail and Parmalee Trail. We’ll hike our Parmalee-Meadow-Castle Trail Loop and return to the parking lot. On December 22, there was no snow or ice on the portion of the Parmalee Trail we will hike, two patches of ice on the shaded portion of the Meadow Trail we will hike, and no snow or ice on the portion of the Castle Trail we will hike. Bring your microspikes in your backpack. Hiking poles are recommended. The first 1.2 miles are downhill and the remaining 2 miles are uphill. We’ll stop for layer adjustments when we start uphill and will take other breaks as needed. This is an easy route that we will hike at a moderate pace. Registered participants looking for more of a challenge could bring heavier overnight or multi-day backpacks, and/or may join the hike leader for multiple loops of this route.
Meet at 7:30am at the Mt. Falcon Park West Trailhead 21074 Mount Falcon Road, Indian Hills, CO 80454. This located north of Hwy 285. From Hwy 285 driving west of 470, turn north/right on Parmalee Gulch Road, turn right on Picutis Road, mind the speed limit and wildlife signs through this residential area, follow the Mt. Falcon Park signs up the hill, pass the overflow lot on the left, meet at the main West parking lot slightly farther than the lower lot. If you park at the lower overflow lot, ignore the Parmalee Trail sign at that lower lot and walk the short distance up the road to meet the group.
Required Equipment
Always bring your microspikes in winter. Hiking poles recommended.
