This is intended to be a Challenging hike but not a sufferfest, at a pace for experienced hikers. Please consider before registering the moving speed (pace), climbing rate, distance, total vertical gain, and the notes in this section.
The trail is mostly forested for for the first 7 miles. The last 3 miles we'll be walking primarily through sage. Trail condition is rocky and sandy, and quite steep in sections (up to 35%). The last section may seem anti-climatic compared to the earlier sections.
The climb from Raspberry Mtn to Mt Herman will get your attention: the trail climbs 500' in about 1/3 of a mile. Although there is no exposure or significant risk of rockfall (alway be aware), the trail is loose and footing can be difficult. This is a very challenging section!
We likely will stop for lunch around 11:00 to 11:30 depending on conditions and hiking speed. Anticipated return to the trailhead is around 2:00.
