  • Pace: Casual Up, Moderate Down

This is a beautiful hike totally above treeline once we clear the spur trail.  We'll park at the Jones Pass Trailhead and hike up the Stanley CDT Spur trail, turn left (west) onto the Mount Nystrom/CDT Trail and hike until we get to a saddle at 11,660'.  As we get close to treeline, we'll have a cool view of the Red Mountain "crater". Beyond that, we'll have interesting views of the broad valleys of Butler Gulch and Jones Pass.  At the saddle, we'll see the Indian Peaks as well as the Loveland Pass area.  There is a talus slope that we'll hike through ... but it is relatively flat.
