Hiking – Mt. Valhalla

Hike up Deluge Lake Trail to the bowl below Mt. Valhalla, a 13er in the Vail area. From Deluge Lake, ascend a moderate slope to the class 2+ ridge line to summit Valhalla. Option to add Palomino Point (class 3/4 directly on route to Valhalla). Length of 10-12 miles is estimated Round Trip distance based on a recent ascent of Grand Traverse Peak using a similar route.

This is not a technical route, but this is a class 2+ hike with a lot of elevation gain. The photo provided shows the ridgeline which will be the route from the adjacent Grand Traverse Peak. The descent can be a bit loose on the grassy slope.

Meet at the Gore Creek Trailhead at 5:30am (-106.27654, 39.62831). This is often a busy lot, but this early in the morning should not pose a problem. We will plan to leave the parking lot at 6:00am. I drive a 2003 green Tacoma and will have an orange Home Depot bucket on top to make it easily identifiable.
