This 5 mile forested loop offers stunning views, some history, and plenty of birds.

The first mile, along a beautiful creek, will take us to the Old Mill (1920 sawmill), where we will break for 5 minutes to visit the ruins and read historical signage. We will then take Borderline Trail to Staunton Rocks Overlook for a short lunch break, before continuing on the loop back to the Lazy V parking lot.

The weather forecast for next week is clear, but the LIT will monitor and provide an update in a confirmation email next week.
While the hike is rated Easy because of miles and elevation, please note that most of the elevation gain is in the first mile. Initial steepness, combined with a starting elevation above 8,000 feet, will make this hike more challenging than the Easy rating suggests. We will begin at a 1.5 mph pace, with brief stops as needed, but please consider your level of fitness and altitude conditioning before signing up for this hike. Don’t hesitate to call the leader, if you have concerns or questions.
Carpool:
7:30 meet up for 7:40 prompt departure from The Fort, 19192 Highway 8, Morrison, right off 285. (Park in lower lot, as upper lot is now closed.)
We will carpool ~ 20 miles to the Lazy V parking lot in Staunton SP. Entrance fee is $10 without a State Parks Pass.
Carpool expense, without park entrance fee, is $14 per vehicle to be shared equally between occupants.
