This is a loop hike to both Paiute Peak and Mt Audubon
Paiute Peak, elevation 13,088’, is on the Continental Divide, north of Mount Toll and west of Mt. Audubon, and offers fantastic views of the Indian Peaks. The hike is on well developed trail from Mitchell Lake Trailhead to Blue Lake. From there, we will follow cairns through the boulder field up to Little Blue Lake at 11,833’. From Little Blue Lake, the route becomes moderately challenging, with some Class 1 and 2 scrambling up the couloir to the ridge on the Continental Divide at 12,800 ft. Once there, it’s a short distance north along the ridge to Paiute Peak’s 13,088’ summit.
From Paiute Peak we will follow the ridge, with some Class 1 and Class 2 scrambling, over to Mt Audubon. From Mt Audubon we will follow the Mt Audubon Trail back to the Mitchell Lake Trailhead and Parking.
