We will walk around a portion of Pine Valley Lake, south along Strawberry Jack to Skipper trail, then turn north to hike on Buck Gulch. We will make our way through a coniferous forest and then up the mountain to an area that was burned during the Hi Meadow Fire in 2000.
While many of the pine trees on the mountain are gone forever, there should be an abundance of flowers, bushes, and young aspen trees. Years ago, when we lived in Bailey (not far from Pine Valley Ranch), the aspens consistently began budding over Memorial Day weekend, so they should be dressed in their splendid spring green for our outing. Because part of the hillside is without tall trees, we should be able to get a good view of Mt. Rosalie and the surrounding area, as well.
