Hiking – RMNP - Mt. Chapin, Mt Chiquita, Ypsilon Mountain (The CCY)

This challenging hike is a chance to bag 3 summits in Rocky Mountain National Park in a single day. Two of the 3 are over 13,000 feet. Climbing the trifecta of 12,454-foot Mt. Chapin, 13,069-foot Mt. Chiquita and 13,514-foot Ypsilon Mountain is one of the classic hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park. The amazing panoramic views from the three peaks along the "CCY Route" are some of the best in the park.

  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,200 ft

The traditional way to hike this loop is to begin with Mt. Chapin, then Mt. Chiquita and Mt. Ypsilon. Hence the CCY. We will mix it up a bit. We will begin with Mt. Chiquita, then Mt Ypsilon and end with Mt Chapin. My plan is to descend Mt Chapin by follow the ridge and coming down the NW flank of the mountain.

Meeting location in Fort Collins will be Target parking lot located at College & Troutman. Please meet in the NW corner of the parking lot. Meet time will be 5am. We will try to coordinate car pool to the trailhead for participants coming from the Denver/Boulder area.

Required Equipment

Required Equipment

We will be at or above timberline for alot of this hike. The weather can be windy and rain so dress appropriately. There are no water sources along the route so bring plenty of water. I would recommend 2 liters. We will have a lunch break on Mt Ypsilon. Although not required, trekking poles are recommended.
