From the Wild Basin TH we will follow the Thunder Lake Trail for 4.5 miles. After 1.4 miles we will go on the backpackers trail will it will join up with the Thunder Lake trail. Then we will ascend into the heart of Wild Basin. The trail meanders through the forest and marsh for 1.75 miles to lion Lake 1. Lion lake 2 is a tarn that rises above Lion Lake 1. From Lion Lake 1 you get a great view of Chiefs Head and Mt. Alice. We will pass Trio falls as we ascend to Lion Lakes 2 then onto Snowbank Lake. Snowbank Lake is surrounded by short granite walls and sits on a shelf above Lion Lakes 2. After Lion Lakes 2 we will be a bit off trail until we arrive at Snowbank Lake. The plan is to have lunch at Snowbank - weather permitting.
More information will follow a few days prior to the trip, including the weather forecast.
Participants from Fort Collins will meet at 5:30 am at JJ's at the corner of Taft Hill Rd. and Harmony Rd. Participants from the Denver/Boulder area will have a carpool set up by Jean Hart, my co lead. We will all meet at the Wild Basin Trail head at 7 am. It is down a 2 mile gravel road from the pay station. Wild Basin is right off Hwy. 7 - The Peak-Peak HWY.
