We will start our hike from the Wild Basin Trailhead in RMNP. It is on a 2 mile dirt road of of Hwy 7 . From the Wild Basin TH follow the Thunder Lake Trail for 3.4 miles to the Bluebird trail. Turn southwest and follow the Bluebird Trail to the junction with the Ouzel Lake Trail. From here it is 1.75 miles and almost 1,000 vertical' feet of elevation gain up to spectacular Bluebird Lake. The wildflowers are beautiful there in July. The path winds among the steep, rocky topography, eventually climbing a series of switchbacks that rise through a narrow canyon to reach the lake. Note that the pace will be casual (1.5 to 2 mph).

You do not need a permit, because we will starting the hike at 6:30 a.m. and you do not need a permit until 9:00am. There may be someone at the gate so make sure you have a RMNP pass.

We will carpool from Fort Collins. If you are coming from there we will meet at 5:00 a.m. at JJ's at the intersection of Taft Hill Rd. and Harmony Rd.

An email will go out a few days before the trip with more details.
