There will be a prep session conducted online via Zoom on the Weds or Thurs evening prior to the field day. An invite will be sent to participants a few days prior which will contain the Zoomlink and timing for the prep session. In this session we'll clarify meeting location and timing, but generally the plan is to meet at 7am and conclude roughly 3pm. The field day will take place at Jefferson County's North Table Mountain Park. Located off Hwy 93 between Golden and Boulder. Approximately 3 miles north of Golden located on the East side of Hwy 93.

We will meet at a small parking lot south of the main lot. Traveling from Denver on Hwy 58, turn North onto Hwy 93 and proceed through 3 sets of lights. Turn right at Pine Ridge Drive and left on Wyoming Circle. The parking lot is on the left.

Traveling South from Boulder pass the main parking lot and turn left on Pine Ridge Drive and left on Wyoming Circle.

The field day starts out with examination of surrounding terrain, orienting the map with terrain and compass, finding and fixing position. There is emphasis throughout the day on terrain recognition, map reading, measuring and following bearings, travel techniques, using multiple factors in combination, and general problem solving related to navigation. Come prepared for weather and consider that we may be moving slowly and stopping frequently.

Bring any questions that you have - it is your class!

Required Equipment

Bring essentials as you would for any CMC full day outing. We will be hiking off trail much of the day. North table Mountain is a rattle snake habitat and summer grasses and prickly plants are tall. Please wear hiking boots. Long pants or light gaiters are good idea even in summer.

Bring compass, preferably one with adjustable declination, pencil, straight edge (you can use baseplate of compass), the map of North Table Mountain with the red dots.
