  • Mileage: 6.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,200 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 10,800 ft

This will be an intermediate plus snowshoe trip in the upper Cameron Pass area. The trip begins at the Blue Lake parking lot. We then walk along H14 for couple hundred yards to the Sawmill Creek trailhead. The plan is to snowshoe up the Sawmill Creek drainage to the basin below the 'Bird Peaks'; Chickadee, Grosbeak, Junco, Siskin and Pipet. CLICK 'MORE' BUTTON

NOTE: The pic is of an earlier trip to summit Chickadee and Grosbeak Peaks in June. We will NOT be summiting any of the peaks. The avalanche danger would be extreme.

This trip will technically be on trail for about 2-2.5 miles, however, there may not be a track, so we may have to break trail. Beyond the first couple miles, we will be off trail to our destination to the basin. From the basin the views of the 'Bird Peaks' is pretty outstanding, so hopefully we will have nice weather for our lunch break. We will then follow our tracks for the return back to the trailhead.

Don't let the 6 mile distance fool you into thinking this will be an easy snowshoe. It will involve having to break trail, off trail snowshoeing and route finding which may involve some bushwacking in order to reach the basin. If you have little to no snowshoeing experience, this may not be a good trip for you.
