Mountaineering – Gannett Peak via Titcomb Basin

Trailblazers mountaineering trip to summit Gannett peak over the Wednesday July 22 thru July 26

  • Mileage: 42.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 9,050 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 13,810 ft
  • Pace: 2-2.5 (fast) on trail

For our backpacking days we’ll be following this route and summit day we’ll climb dunwoody pass, navigate dunwoody glacier and ascend Gannett via the gooseneck pinnacle route.

Wednesday July 22nd Drive and hike-in

  • Leave Denver 6:00am for morning drive to Trailhead
  • In afternoon, hike ~6 miles to Hobbs lake and make camp

Thursday July 23rd Hike in some more

  • Hike ~14 miles to the top of titcomb basin

Friday July 24th Summit day

  • Cross Bonney pass, navigate Dunwoody glacier and climb Gannett via the gooseneck pinnacle route.
  • Return to camp at titcomb basin. Depending on group energy we can choose to camp at the head of titcomb basin, or move camp closer to the bottom of titcomb basin/Island lake

Saturday July 25th Hike out 

  • Hike out part way and again camp near hobbs lake
    -or-
    Hike to the cars and camp at campground next to fremont lake

Sunday July 26th hike out/Drive home

  • Finish hike back to the cars and drive back to Denver



Plan on 

  • 4 nights in the backcountry
  • 4 Breakfasts/lunches/dinners in the backcountry

We'll leave Denver early Wednesday morning, ~6:00.  We'll begin our hike In the early afternoon once we arrive to the Trailhead
