This route is about 9.5 miles, roundtrip, with 800 feet of elevation gain. You can watch football reruns anytime - why not enjoy some good kick-and-glide while great snow is still available!!
I don't believe this trail is ever prone to avalanche danger, but I will check the Colorado Avalanche Information Center's site before our departure on Saturday. If there's any chance of an avalanche (historically unlikely) the trip will be cancelled.
Please bring plenty of winter clothing/layers as much of the trail is shaded and cold throughout the winter. Bring plenty of water/fluids and snacks or a light lunch as we'll take an extended break once we reach the Loveland ski area.
Your humble leader will be using waxed, cross-country skis. These are a bit slower (at times) going uphill but a bit quicker going downhill. You are welcome to use fish scale skis or skins. Please, no snowshoes or hiking boots. Also, no pets.
Roundtrip time should be well under five hours.
Probably NO restaurant stop on the way back due to football crowds in all of the establishments.

At 10:00 am we will meet at the Woolly Mammoth parking lot across from the Exxon gas station. From there, for those wishing to carpool, we'll head up to the free-standing chimney and parking area at Bakerville (I-70 exit 221).
The Exxon gas station is on Highway 40 (Exxon, 18561 US-40, Golden, CO 80401) which is accessible from I-70 Exit 259.
For those wishing to carpool (which is NOT arranged or coordinated by the CMC) the total, roundtrip distance is 76 miles. Currently, the Denver group is suggesting 32 cents per mile shared by all occupants of the vehicle, including the driver. This comes out to about $24 per vehicle, or $6 per person if there are four in the car (including the driver).
Required Equipment
Skis, poles, gaiters, and plenty of layered winter clothing.
Bring plenty of water/fluids and snacks or a light lunch.
Bring small bills to pay a driver if you plan to carpool.
