RMOTHG Trip – James Peak Wilderness Area - James Peak via Loch Lomond

Starting at Loch Lomond this is a 5 mile / 2000 ft elevation gain hike to the summit of James Peak (13,271). This is a Class 2 tundra / talus out-and-back hike.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 13,271 ft
  • Pace: Moderate / Steady / Minimal Stops

All above-treeline peak ascents are serious undertakings - especially during this shoulder season.

Although the forecast is for mostly sunny, moderate weather - you will need to come prepared for winter conditions.

Please assess your aerobic / physical conditioning for gaining 2000 ft of elevation in 2.5 miles - at high elevation.  Our pace will be approx 1.5 mph ascending and 2 mph descending.

High clearance vehicles with 8+ inches of clearance required to access TH. Most SUV's have this clearance (e.g.  Subaru Forester & Outback, Toyota Rav 4)

This is an exploratory hike for the leader.

Meeting Time:      7 am.
Meeting Place:     Wooly Mammoth Park n Ride / Section BB (across from Exxon Station). I70 exit 259. Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride - Google Maps Exxon: 18561 Highway 40, Golden, Co
