RMOTHG Trip – Spruce Mountain Trail

This is an RMOTHG (Rocky Mountain Over the Hill Gang) hike. It is a loop hike on the Mountain Top Loop and the Eagle Pass Trails. In addition to several sweeping views, there should be a variety of flowers, including Pasque flowers, to enjoy.

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 660 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,605 ft
  • Pace: 1.8 - 2.0 mph

This is a loop hike. From the Spruce Mountain Open Space trailhead, we will take the Mountain Top Loop trail up onto Spruce Mountain all the way to Windy Point, where we will enjoy lunch with great sweeping views to the south and west. From Windy Point, we will follow the Mountain Top Loop trail to the Service Road, which we will take down to the Eagle Pass Trail. We will then follow the Eagle Pass Trail back to the trailhead.

Except for the Service Road, this hike is on well-established trails. The Service Road is wide but rutted in places, so we will be careful making our way down the Service Road.

Meet at 8:30AM in the Cabelas parking lot at RidgeGate and I-25, specifically in the northwest section of the parking lot near the Cabela's, so we can leave no later than 8:40AM.  Here is a Google Maps link to the meeting place: https://maps.app.goo.gl/5JXfb8zvnYu87LgAA    DO NOT PARK in the parking lot close to the Sierra Restaurant or the hotel!

The Spruce Mountain Open Space Trailhead is located at 13415 S Spruce Mountain Road, between Larkspur and Palmer Lake.  Here is a Google Maps link to the trailhead:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/6yHcggcsUsitmdLc8
