RMOTHG Trip – Upper Forest Lakes Trail

This beautiful trail starts at the East Portal Trailhead near Rollinsville, then follows the South Boulder Creek Trail to both the Lower and Upper Forest Lakes. It is a mostly shady, forested path that winds through the James Peak Wilderness.

  • High Point Elevation: 10,884 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2,0

 This is an 8-mile hike with 1,800 feet of elevation gain, and is rated as moderately difficult. We will hike at a moderate pace of 1.5 - 2.0 miles per hour, or at an adjusted pace to suit the trip participants. AllTrails warns to “be prepared for steep sections with rocky parts”.
This hike is exploratory to the leaders. We will first hike to Lower Forest lake, then on to Upper Forest Lake, where we will enjoy our lunches. After that, we will return by the same route.

Meeting Time for Carpool:   6:30 for a no later than 6:40 departure.

Carpool Drivers:  The total driving distance to/from the trailhead is 74 miles. All vehicle occupants are asked to share the cost of $25 (74 mi x .34).
