This is a challenging class 3 scramble. Prior recent scrambling experience is required to participate.
Mt Meeker is a centennial 13er and the second tallest mountain of Rocky Mountain National Park. Let's take advantage of prime hiking season to pay it a visit.
Starting from the Longs Peak trailhead on the east side of RMNP, we will follow well maintained RMNP trails towards Chasm Lake for approximately 4 miles. We will then go off trail and scramble on rocks and slabs up the Loft Couloir (to the left of Ship's Prow) up to The Loft, the saddle between Mt Meeker and Longs Peak (at 13,500').
From the saddle, it is another 400' up class 2 rock, followed by a short exposed section to the west (true) summit of Mt Meeker.
We will retrace our steps on the way down.
This hike requires a good weather window!
The total distance is 12 miles with about 4500' of gain.
