This is a long day in the high alpine with spectacular views of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Never Summer Mountains. A level of fitness is required in order to move at an adequate speed to finish this traverse in in time (before dark). Depending on the amount of snow, participants should be prepared to glissade from the saddle of Richthofen and Mahler down to lake Agnes. This will be much easier than hard-on-the-ankles talus hopping but requires ice axe self arrest skills. This trip is being scheduled earlier in the season than typical this year because State Forest State park officials are closing trails for maintenance starting in early July through October so be prepared to utilize a fixed line or rappel rope to pass through areas of snow.
Required Equipment
Participants should bring harness, belay/rappel device, prusiks, ice axe, crampons, helmet, headlamp, and of course ten essentials. The leader will bring a 30m rope.
