Trip Report
Ascending Hikes – Mount Morrison
The trip description is spot on: biggest, baddest, rough and tumble, slog of a hike in the Denver Mountain Park system. Your efforts are more than rewarded with the 360 degree views from the top. If you want a great workout, with a short drive to the TH, this is the hike for you.

The trail conditions were a mixture of dirt, rocks, mud, and packed snow/ice, in addition to being rather steep, especially for the first half mile from the trailhead. We needed microspikes for certain sections when descending.
Our group was wonderful and helped make this very challenging hike a more pleasant experience. We waited for each other, kept an eye out for hazards, and helped each other when the scrambling near the top got a bit intense. All the effort to get to the top was rewarded with some exceptional views.
The weather was very cooperative, sunny and in the 30-40's, and no wind.
The trail conditions ensured that each of us watched our footing but wasn't overly difficult.
Lastly, the scramble to/from the top added a bit of excitement and adventure to the trip.
One mumbles along the way "why am I doing this" until you get to the top and the answer is provided. Also, as time passes, the commitment you made to yourself about not doing this again starts to waiver and you eventually get to the point of saying "if I did this once, I certainly could do it again... and maybe a bit faster".
It's a short drive to the trailhead, you get a great workout, and the views are amazing. Why wouldn't you put this hike on the your list?
