Trip Report

Hiking – Golden Gate Canyon State Park - Ralston Roost Trailhead Loop

A great hike around Golden Gate Canyon State Park with a wonderful group of people. Rachel was an excellent leader and introduced me to a new route. This hike consisted of a bit of scrambling, some elevation gain, and a comfortable downhill return to the cars.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail kept you on your toes, with a of dirt, mud, packed snow, ice, and rock scrambling. Microspikes were required in sections. The weather was great, sunny and warm.

This was my first trip with Rachel as leader and she was excellent. She was familiar with the route, provided guidance, and helped manage the group though changing trail conditions. I can't wait for my next hike with Rachel as leader.

Our group consisted of experienced CMC hikers, including a person that I'd never met. Rachel set a "healthy" pace (just what we were looking for), across varying trail conditions. It was also fun to exchange stories and catch up with the group members.

Overall, about 5.2 miles and 1100 ft elevation gain in about 4 hours (we took some time for lunch and sharing what was in our first aid kits)

Overall, a memorable and enjoyable hike! Thanks Rachel.
