Shelf Lake
Backpacking School Group 3 trip, Aug 5-6, 2022. We hiked from Duck Creek Picnic Area, through Geneva Campground, along the ski trail that parallels the road up to Shelf Lake. Camped about 2 miles below Shelf Lake, nice big group site with good water access. Trail is easy to follow all the way to lake.

We had epic monsoonal storms on our trip. We had planned to camp two nights, but reduced to one after the first day had such relentless rain and hail. There are some nice campsites about midway up the trail to Shelf Lake, look for the open meadow area around 1.5m from the trailhead for a good group site. Trail to Shelf Lake is generally uphill, taking you above treeline and 12,000 feet at the end.
