AIARE L1 - Classroom – Colorado Mountain Club Basecamp

Students will spend a class day participating in lectures, case studies, and a class exercise or two. Prior to the class, students are required to complete the AIARE's on-line class. We'll provide the AIARE code three weeks prior to class.

AIARE L1 Lectures

Lecture Topics: Introduction to the AIARE Decision Making Framework; Avalanche Terrain, Snowpack; Avalanche Problems - Student Teams exercise; Tracking the Season; Human Factors; A Case Study of an Avalanche Accident; Trip Planning & Building Routes Using GPS APPS Like CalTopo, onX Backcountry or GAIA.  

The AIARE Course Leader & Insgtructor, Max Lurie, will send out the final class agenda, including assignments for the Student Teams for the Avalanche Problems Class Exercise and the Avalanche Incident Case Study the week or so prior to the class.

CMC Basecamp, Golden, CO

Lectures Start: 8:30am - Be there at 8:15am.

Lectures End: 2:30pm; then a short break-out of Instructors/Teams
