  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

This clinic will meet at the American Mountaineering Center's Conference Room A & B from 9am to 2pm.

Harness the timeless wisdom and proven practices of mindfulness for a more joyful life both on and off the trails.

Join Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and CMC member, Michele L. Walter, for an Introduction to Mindfulness class.

Every day we encounter crooked and winding trails in one form or another. Mindfulness meditation makes it possible to

  • Improve focus and presence
  • Increase resilience
  • Improve communication and relationships
  • Self-regulate during conflict and difficult conversations
  • Decrease worry, anxiety, depression, reactivity and stress
  • Improve conscious leadership skills in all areas of life

During this class, Michele will provide a short talk on what mindfulness meditation is, how mindfulness can become a way of life beyond the meditation chair, and how we can use mindfulness in outdoor activities.  She will then lead us through a basic mindfulness meditation practice.  There will be an opportunity for questions at the end.  Participants also will receive an electronic link to Michele’s Mindfulness Foundations Guidebook. You’ll leave this class with a deeper understanding of how to seamlessly incorporate mindfulness into your everyday life.

You’re welcome to bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion if you’d like, but it’s not necessary.  Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn.

If you want to get a head start on the class, check out Michele’s article:  What is Mindfulness? (Most People are Getting it Wrong).

We are using this Introduction to Mindfulness class to gauge CMC member’s interest in an ongoing mindfulness meditation class series.  So please bring any ideas or topics of interest you may want to explore in the future or email us your thoughts.
