This is an elective scrambling trip for the NoCo Alpine Scrambling Course. Students must complete three elective scrambling trips in order to graduate and earn the appropriate Badge.
This scramble starts in the American Lakes basin and circles around to the Lake Agnes basin summitting both Static peak and Mount Richthofen, the highest peak in the Never Summer Mountains at 12,945 ft. The route will follow the northern boundary of Rocky Mountain national Park with stupendous views. The ascent of Static peak is among the best in the park, a class 3 knife edge on high quality rock. The descent of Richthofen sees an extremely short class 4 section and either a descent on loose rock or snow. The final descent off of the saddle with Mount Mahler to Lake Agnes will hopefully be a glissade on snow with magnificent views.
