AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course - 2026

Avalanche Education Course

Avalanche Rescue

AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day stand alone course that teaches best practices in avalanche rescue techniques and gear. Whether it is your first foray into avalanche education or seasoned, you'll benefit from a day in the snow practicing life-saving skills and coaching from AIARE Instructors.

AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day stand alone course that is intended to be retaken on a regular basis.  New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue, while returning participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills. Each participant will have the opportunity to receive professional coaching on their rescue skills, and will receive a rescue card acknowledging the completion date. AIARE recommends that all backcountry travelers keep their skills current by taking an Avalanche Rescue course and receiving a rescue card at least every other year. CMC requires it every 5 years at least to refresh and update skills CMC leaders and instructors use in the field.

Cancellations & Rescheduling: Participants should understand and appreciate that these courses are held during the winter season where poor weather and driving conditions may require cancellation or rescheduling of this course. Please refer to the CMC's cancellation policy (see link above) prior to enrolling in the course. While this policy provides our primary guidance for such contingencies, the course leadership will attempt to accommodate enrollee's completion of the course during the current season based on class and instructor availability.

Leave No Trace is a trail and wilderness ethic that is encouraged and supported by the National Park Service. Here is the link to a self-guided learning module that explains the principles of Leave No Trace and your role in applying those principles. You have to send proof of completion prior to attending the course to the NOCO AIARE School Director. This is a RMNP requirement.
