Snowshoeing Overnight Hut Trip for Teens

For students in 6th-8th grade, travel by snowshoes and spend a night at the CMC hut!

It’s winter hut trip time! Strap on your snowshoes and adventure through the snowy trails of Brainard Lake before arriving at the cozy CMC Hut for an unforgettable overnight. Spend the day exploring and playing in the snow, then warm up inside with a hearty homemade meal, a crackling fire, and plenty of games with friends. Designed for middle schoolers of all experience levels, whether it’s your first hut trip or your tenth, this winter adventure is for you!

Registration Details:
  • Age: 6th-8th Grade

  • Dates: January 17th-19th, 2026

  • Location: CMC Hut at Brainard Lake. Trips will depart from the Colorado Mountain Club in Golden, Co. Transportation from Golden to/from trailheads provided.

  • Cost: CMC Family Members - $435/3-Days, Non-Members -$475/3-Days. CMC Members with a Family Membership receive $40 off. Learn about all the benefits of becoming a CMC member.

  • Weather Policies: In the case of severe weather, temperatures below zero degrees Fahrenheit and snowstorms, CMC reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any class or program. Programs canceled due to weather will receive a full refund.

  • Please note, if you have an individual membership and wish to sign up your child, you will need to create a separate guest account with a different email. You can also choose to upgrade your individual membership to a family membership to be able to register your child on your account and receive the discount.

  • Course fees includes lunch and dinner on day 1, breakfast-dinner day 2, breakfast and lunch on day 3, transportation to Brainard Lake Recreation area, snowshoeing equipment, and hut/lodging fees.

    • Refund/cancellation policy: After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with more details and information about the camp. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

    Participant Packing List:

    If you are unable to bring any of the items below, please let us know. CMC does have a few extra items that we are happy to loan out for the camp.

    • Clothes (comfortable warm clothing for snowshoeing and sleeping):
      • Loose fitting water proof pants or long underwear or hiking pants with waterproof snow pants or rain pants over them
      • Long sleeve shirt or baselayer 
      • Heavy Winter Jacket
      • Closed-toed, water proof sturdy boots
      • Extra pair of socks (cotton not recommended)
      • Sweater and/or warm layer  
      • Sunglasses  
      • Warm hat and gloves
    • Sunscreen and lip balm
    • Water bottle 
    • Backpack large enough to carry all personal items on this list (CMC is able to provide one if needed)
    • Personal medications (inhaler, EPI pen, etc.) – please have all containers and bottles labeled and also listed on the medical forms
    • Sleeping bag (optional, CMC is able to provide one if needed)
    • Overnight toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, *please note: there are no bathing facilities)
    • Camera (optional)

    CMC will provide:

    • Lunch and dinner on day 1, 3 meals and snacks on day 2, and breakfast and lunch on day 3
    • Snowshoes 
    • Permits
    • Transportation to and from Golden to Brainard Lake Recreation Area
    • Sleeping bags and large backpacks if needed
    • Extra clothing/gear if needed
