Level 2: Scramble Field Day – Mt. Bierstadt

This is the second of the progressive Scramble Field Days for students currently enrolled in Alpine Scrambling Course Denver. Scrambling involves long, strenuous days covering 9-13 miles with high elevation gains (greater than 2,500') Be prepared for an all day adventure and bring your winning attitude.

Starting from Summit Lake overflow parking (39.60022, -105.63477) we will summit Mt. Spalding and descend to the Spalding - Blue Sky saddle at 13,600 ft. We will follow the 13,600 ft contour line to the entry of the Sawtooth ridge trail and, weather permitting, continue on the ridge to Bierstadt. We will retrace our path with a possible diversion to practice on slabs on the west ridge of Mt. Blue Sky before returning to the cars.

  • Carpool/Parking Contribution: 

    • $40 Formula: $0.50 x RT mileage (80 miles RT/divided equally among students: BRING CASH/EXACT CHANGE)

Cancellations are problematic and it is not guaranteed that a make up scramble will be available.
