Rock Module Field Days for Alpine Climbing School

After a team discussion, you will be working through stations where you can practice each of the skills taught in Intermediate Rock, Basic Anchors, and Basic Self Rescue. These include:

  • Rappelling (extended rappel, off the harness rappel, munter rappel, isolated single strand rappel, correct autoblock application)

  • Top rope anchors using bolts and natural pro

  • Belay takeover and going handsfree

  • Ascending a rope

  • Rappelling past an obstruction

Time: 8:00am at the parking lot. Plan for a full day out but probably no later than 4pm.

Please make sure you bring the following climbing gear:

  • Helmet

  • Harness

  • Climbing shoes (approach shoes are also fine). We may do some light climbing.

  • ATC belay device

  • Autoblock

  • 5 locking carabiners (bring the CAMP HMS carabiner you were given)

  • 2 double length runners (bring the double runner that you were given)

  • Foot and waste prusiks (should have been provided to you at your evening lecture or orientation) 

  • 4 non-locking carabiners

Please also keep in mind that it may be chilly so plan accordingly with appropriate layers. Make sure you have enough food and water for the day. We won’t take an official lunch but there will be time throughout the day to snack.
