Join us for the first Spring weekend of 2025 for a challenging Snowshoe to the beautiful alpine lakes of Bob and Betty in the southern Indian Peaks Wilderness. We will begin this early season training for future alpine endeavors starting from the popular Hessie Trailhead just west of the small hamlet and ski area of Eldora.
This snowshoe route will follow the Devils Thumb Trl to it’s junction with the King Lake Trl which will then take us to the Bob & Betty Lakes spur trail. This short but steep trail will deliver us into the alpine glory that the Indian Peaks afford the intrepid adventurer.
PLEASE, note the distance (~13 miles) AND elevation gain (~2700 feet). While none of the trail is exceptionally steep, this will be a LONG day on snowshoes!
You should have recent experience in full days in the backcountry and be able to travel efficiently through moderate to deep snow including breaking trail. This hike is training for future spring alpine climbs, however it is NOT training for THIS hike. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me before signing up.
We will meet for carpooling at 6:45am for a 7:00am departure from the Plainview Road carpool lot in north Golden just west of the CO-72 and CO-93 intersection. Link to follow.
