This hike to Diamond Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness begins at the 4th of July Trailhead, following a well-maintained trail through dense forests, wildflower meadows, and across a few small streams. After a steady climb, we'll reach Diamond Lake, a serene alpine lake nestled among rugged peaks. From here, the off-trail adventure to Upper Diamond Lake begins. Navigating through rocky terrain and patches of tundra, we’ll need solid route-finding skills and an eye for the subtle paths formed by nature. The ascent to Upper Diamond Lake rewards with seclusion and stunning high-altitude scenery above the tree line. We will find a comfortable spot at/near the Upper Diamond Lake for lunch/snack. Our pace will be comfortable for all participants. Overall ~8 miles and ~2100 ft elevation gain. (Diamond Lakes - IPW - CalTopo)
Come and celebrate a great Ascending Hikes Season. We will have a nice hike to Upper and Lower Diamond Lakes, and afterwards have some social time.
The Colorado Mountain Club's Ascending Hike Section (AHS) provides an opportunity to make new friends and explore new places in Colorado's backcountry, while increasing your personal hiking speed, strength, and stamina.
