Pawnee Pass and Pawnee Peak: 10 miles, 2,550 feet of elevation gain. The hike starts at the Long Lake Trailhead in the Brainard Lake National Recreation Area. The trail goes along Long Lake, then the trail begins to gain elevation as it reaches Lake Isabelle. At Lake Isabelle, take a left onto the Pawnee Pass Trail, and proceed to Pawnee Pass (12,541). At Pawnee Pass, hike to the ridge just north of the pass. For this section there are several social trails that can be followed. Then continue on the ridge until you reach Pawnee Peak (12,943).
Please note that this is an Ascending Hike, and the pace is designed for those who are working up to more difficult hikes. Therefore, it is important for safety reasons to maintain the target 1.5 mph for this hike. If you need to hike faster, please choose a different hike.
Meet at Golden Gate Canyon Rd Parking at 6:00 am for a prompt 6:15 am departure. Golden Gate Canyon Road is located on the southwest corner of CO 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Road.
We will take CO 93 North to CO 72 (Coal Creek Canyon Rd). When we reach CO 119, we will follow that to Nederland where we'll have a rest stop. From there, follow CO 119 to Brainard Lake Road
