Brainard Lake Rec Area - Long Lake Trailhead

The TH is located at the west end of the Brainard Lake Recreation Area, at the Pawnee Pass Campground, and is one of the most popular trailheads on the Boulder Ranger District. In addition to separate group and overnight camping permits, note that trailhead-specific timed entry permits are required for each vehicle.  Beyond that, there is a vehicle fee for the National Recreation Area if none of the people in the car have a National Parks Pass.

Pawnee Pass and Pawnee Peak: 10 miles, 2,550 feet of elevation gain

The hike starts at the Long Lake Trailhead in the Brainard Lake National Recreation Area.  The trail goes along Long Lake, then the trail begins to gain elevation as it reaches Lake Isabelle.  At Lake Isabelle, take a left onto the Pawnee Pass Trail, and proceed to Pawnee Pass (12,541). At Pawnee Pass, hike to the ridge just north of the pass.  For this section there are several social trails that can be followed. Then continue on the ridge until you reach Pawnee Peak (12,943).
