Ascending Hikes – Huron Peak via NW slopes

Huron Peak (14,006) is one of the lowest 14ers and has a good trail to the top. A good choice for hikers wanting to experience 14ers.

Don't plan on any other activities in the evening after this hike because it is a long hike with significant elevation gain coupled with a long drive to Denver.

We will follow the standard route up the northwest slopes from the 2 wheel drive trailhead (S Winfield.  A description of the hike can be found on 14ers.com  

This Ascending Hike is intended for participants who are developing their capabiities to climb 14ers.  Therefore, the pace of this hike will be 1.5 mph.  If you need to hike faster, please choose another hike.

Meet at the 2 wheel drive trail head for Huron Peak Trailhead (Clear Creek S. Winfield) at 7 am for a 7:15 am departure.  There are areas of dispersed camping near the Trailhead.  Note that it is a 3 hour drive from Denver to the trailhead.  Directions to the Huron Peak TH can be found here.

10 essentials.  Be prepared for potential cold temperatures, and potential snow on the trail.  Warm layers, warm hat, mittens or gloves, waterproof boots, and microspikes are recommended.
