Ascending Hikes - Endurance – San Luis Peak - Northeast Ridge

The trail starts at the Stewart Creek Trailhead and goes up to San Luis Peak, where we can see stunning views of southern Colorado. We may see some moose and beavers along the trail. The trail starts with a mellow incline, then slowly gets steeper once we leave the tree line.

We shall set up camp near the Stewart Creek trailhead on Friday afternoon. Be prepared for near - freezing overnight temperatures. We'll have an alpine start Saturday morning. Be prepared for snowy trail conditions as we near the summit. This is a suitable hike for anyone making their first winter 14er. The hike is on trail for the entire hike. The trail has no exposure or scrambling components. The day challenges us with the length, elevation gain, cold and windy conditions.

Wooly Mammoth CDOT PNR, Section BB, 18560 US Highway 40, Golden, CO 80401           Form carpools at 9:00am and depart by 9:15am. Bring $20.00 for carpool expense.

Required Equipment

Ten essentials, traction control devices are required in the event we encounter snow packed or icy trail conditions. I also recommend bringing trekking poles, gaiters, and suitable clothing layers.
