The DOT is a walking route that makes a full 177-mile circle around Metro Denver. In my opinion Segment 11 is one of the most beautiful, if not the most interesting.
We will start on a short segment of the Sulphur Gulch Trail to reach the Cherry Creek Trail, and soon thereafter join up with the East-West Regional Trail. See the map and gpx at All Trails but note that our group will be following the route shown at AllTrails IN REVERSE, to keep the sun out of our eyes!! https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/dot-segment-11-east-west-regional-trail-to-cherry-creek-trail?u=i&sh=bhqvqk
We will end back up at Schweiger Ranch. Drivers with cars there will shuttle the others back to their cars at Bar CCC Park and Reservoir.
There are toilets at the beginning of the segment, by the parking lot at Bar CCC park. Last time we we were there, there was a porta-potty in the Schweiger Ranch parking lot.
We will keep up a consistent but moderate pace with minimal stops on this almost flat trail. See the beautiful prairie, a place to consider when planning a trip. This stretch feels like a real get-away. We'll talk about the 177-mile Denver Orbital Trail and some other great prairie places for trips.
Robbie Monsma, Durrie Monsma, and Jean Hart have led a series of Skill-Builder Ascending Hikes over the summer, mostly on Saturdays. Good hikes plus some teaching. Look for us again next summer!
