Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding – North Star Mountain
The North Star Mountain East Slopes route is a moderate ski mountaineering route. This ski trip begins at Hoosier Pass. You ski along an old mining road. There is an avalanche slope the group must cross on the way so we will follow safety protocols. At the end of the road, you come to a flat area near another mine ruin and start climbing up the east slopes of North Star. If the snowpack is good we can skin all the way to the skier’s summit at about 13,450. There will likely be some walking carrying your skis. If conditions are still good we will hike up the little ridge above the parking lot on the way back and ski those slopes that face the parking lot. Otherwise we’ll go back on the road the way we came in
