This route follows a well-define trail. It does not go up the Saint Mary's Glacier. We drive west of Alice, then follow a gravel road for a short distance, then connect with the Continental Divide Trail, and then hook up with the trail from St. Mary's Glacier. Most of the trip is above timberline, so we'll have to watch the winds and smoke--if it's smokey I may cancel the hike. Parking can be an issue, but if we get there early enough we should find parking. (People have been ticketed in the past for parking on the road.) The following link describes most of the hike, but we will not be starting from Loch Lomond: https://www.summitpost.org/southeast-slopes-via-continental-divide-trail/347085
This is a CMC Bobcats Trip. The Bobcats’ mission is to ensure a variety of adventurous CMC trips, mostly on weekdays, all year long. Our trips tend to be faster paced, on more challenging routes, and with fewer stops. We foster a strong community of hikers seeking challenges, discovery, and camaraderie. We don’t have dues and we invite ALL CMC members to sign up for any Bobcat trip that is within their ability level. (For more information on the Bobcats section see https://www.cmc.org/groups-sections/special-interest-sections/bobcats-section)
We will meet at Wooly Mammoth Park and Ride, section BB, across from the Exxon gas station, at 6:00 am so we can form carpools for the drive to the trailhead. We will leave no later than 6:05. Here’s a Google Maps link to Wooly Mammoth: Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride · 18560 US-40, Golden, CO 80401
Required Equipment
Be sure to bring the 10 essentials. It can be quite windy, so be sure to bring wind-proof clothes. I always like to bring hiking poles, but they're not required.
