BPX Trip – BPX 2-Day: Colorado Trail - Segment 10 from Timberland Lake TH
Moderate backpacking trip along Segment 10 of the Colorado Trail. Each day is about 6 miles total. We will camp one night near Rock Creek.

To end point (Mt Massive Trailhead) from Leadville: Drive south on Highway 24 for about 3.5 miles. Turn right (west) onto CO Hwy 300. Drive 0.8 mile, turn left (south) on Halfmoon Rd, and continue 1.2 miles to an intersection. Take the righthand branch (Halfmoon Rd/FS Rd 110). Continue ~6 miles to trailhead on the right, after the Elbert Creek Campground. There is no toilet at Mt Massive, but there is one at Mt Elbert to the east.
To end point (Mt Massive Trailhead) from Buena Vista: Starting at the Main Street stop light, drive 30 miles north on highway 24. Turn left (west) onto CO Hwy 300. Drive 0.8 mile, turn left (south) on Halfmoon Rd, and continue 1.2 miles to an intersection. Take the righthand branch (Halfmoon Rd/FS Rd 110). Continue ~6 miles to the trailhead on the right, after the Elbert Creek Campground. There is no toilet at Mt Massive, but there is one at Mt Elbert to the east.
To starting point (Timberline Lake Trailhead) from Mt Massive Trailhead: Go back the way you came in, ~6 miles on Halfmoon Rd/FS Rd 110. Turn left on Halfmoon Road and continue 1.2 miles to a T intersection. Turn left on CO Hwy 300. Drive 3.9 mi. Turn left on Rd 5 towards Turquoise Lake. Drive 0.8 mi. Turn left on County Rd 4 which becomes Turquoise Lake Rd. Continue around the south side of the lake for 6.3 mi. Timberline Lake Trailhead will be on your left just after the May Queen campground. There are no bathrooms at the trailhead but there are at May Queen.
