BPX Trip – BPX 2-Day: Lake Ann from South Fork Clear Creek / Huron Peak TH
We will complete the first 9 miles of the Collegiate West 2 Segment of the Colorado Trail to Lake Ann, a gorgeous alpine lake. We will camp at South Fork of Clear Creek and visit Lake Ann on Day 2. This moderate backpacking trip is 14.3 mi (total) with 2,500 ft elevation gain and a high point of 11,866 ft.

Moderate due to length of days and elevation gain. Pace: 1.7 mph average, with breaks as needed. Recent backpacking experience with similar distance/elevation gain is required.
Essential Gear:
You must bring all your own gear
Two + days of food required -- be prepared
Wildlife-safe food storage required -- either 1) bear canister or 2) bear-safe bag with odor proof sacks and hanging gear
Make sure you have: Rain gear, insulating layers, dry sleep clothes, hiking clothes
Trekking poles recommended
Meetup:
- Everyone meets at 8:20 am at Sheep Gulch Trailhead
- Strict 8:30 departure, please be on time
- Carpool: Meet at Woolly Mammoth EE at 5:20 AM; Depart by 5:30 AM; BE AT THE TRAILHEAD BY 8:20 AM!
- Road Difficulty: 2WD; high clearance preferable due to bumpiness.
Driving directions:
To end point SW of Winfield from Leadville (1 hr): Take US 24 E South out of Leadville for ~19 mi. Turn right on County Road 390. Drive for 11.7 mi. At the ghost town of Winfield, turn left on County Road 390/FS Road 390. Drive ~0.3 mi and park in a large pullout on the right.
To starting point (Sheep Gulch Trailhead) from end point (~10 minutes): Drive back to Winfield. Turn right onto County Road 390. Drive ~2 miles. Sheep Gulch Trailhead will be on the left.
To starting point (Sheep Gulch Trailhead) from Leadville (~47 minutes: Take US 24 E South out of Leadville for ~19 mi. Turn right on County Road 390. Drive for 9.5 mi. Sheep Creek Trailhead will be on the right. There are no bathrooms there, but there are at Clear Creek Reservoir or the Missouri Gulch Trailhead along County Road 390.
