We'll begin at Ute Creek Trailhead and hike approximately 1.2 miles to the Lost Creek Wilderness boundary, where we'll register at the self permit station. We'll continue approximately 2.8 miles to the Brookside- McCurdy junction, where we'll pause to catch our breath after hiking an aggressive climb with limited switchbacks. We'll follow Brookside-McCurdy for about a mile to treeline, then head northeast off trail on tundra towards the Bison Peak. We'll summit via an easy class II scramble. Depending on wind and weather we may stay for lunch, or eat on the go as we retrace our steps back to the starting line.
