As noted above, the park entrance fee per vehicle will be split equally amongst all passengers in that car unless one of the occupants has a pass.
Also previously noted, all trip participants (including the leaders) are asked to equally share/split the campsite fee of $300. If the trip fills, this expense can be as little at $25 per person.
Everyone is also asked to share the mileage costs with their vehicle's driver. The CMC has a suggested price and policy for this at;
https://cmcdenver.org/membership/mileagereimbursement
Price per Gallon (also applies to electric vehicles) 2.0 - 2.5 gal = 30 2.5 - 3.0 gal = 32 3.0 - 3.5 gal = 34 3.5 - 4.0 gal = 38 4.5 - 5.0 gal = 40
Example: Four in a car (includes driver) going 75 miles roundtrip, at $2.899 per gallon would be at 32 cents per mile, for a total of $24.00 - divided by 4 (including the driver) would be $6.00 each. (.32 x 75 = $24.00 divided by 4 = $6.00 each)
Meet at the Needles District Park Campground after 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 28. For those wanting to carpool, we can arrange possible carpools or a caravan option from the Wooley Mammoth park n Ride in Denver (I-70 at the Morrison exit). We would meet in Denver at 8:00 AM with the drive approximately 7.5 to 8 hours.
Directions to Canyonlands Needles Campground:
I-70 west to Utah to Moab exit for highway 191. Head south on 191 to Moab. Moab is the last town with gasoline and supplies on the route. Head south from Moab about 40 miles to intersect highway 211. Turn right and head west about 40 miles to Canyonlands National Park entrance. After entering, the visitor center is directly after on the right or just proceed about 3 miles following signage to the campground where the group site is located in loop A just past site 10 on the right. We will be at the Dutch Oven group campground...
Note: There is the usual fee to enter the park or use a pass if you have one. The park entrance fee is to be split equally between everyone in the vehicle.
The campsite reservation has cost your humble trip leaders $300. We ask that that expense be shared equally amongst all trip participants (including the leaders)
Required Equipment
Hikes will be from easy to moderate with some rock scrambling. We plan to do base hikes of about 7 to 9 miles Monday and Tuesday and likely short hikes Sunday and Wednesday. Option for those wanting to do longer hikes. Bring the 10 essentials and adequate hiking footwear. Bring car camp equipment and your own food though we would encourage a pot-luck kind of diner Monday evening. Though a beautiful time of year, warm temperatures are always possible and likely cool nights. Also bring insect repellant just in case.
The campsite has potable drinking water, restrooms, tables, firepits and tent pads.
There is a small general store with basic supplies and expensive gasoline just outside the park. The store also has pay showers available. Cell service in the park is extremely limited, at best.
